The strongest output is a direct garment-to-garment difference at the same landmark. Body-to-garment ease is also shown where appropriate, but fabric stretch is treated as context rather than converted into guaranteed extra room.
Use this as measurement-based guidance, not a guarantee of fit. Brand blocks, grading, fabric stretch, construction and personal preference can change the best size.
Inputs that make the answer stronger
- Enter the candidate hip measurement from the listing or size chart.
- Add the same measurement from a garment you already like wearing for a personal benchmark.
- If a body circumference is relevant, enter the full circumference rather than a flat width.
Worked example
If a shirt listing shows 22 in pit to pit, the corresponding simple chest circumference estimate is about 44 in. If your favorite shirt is 21.5 in pit to pit, the candidate is 0.5 in wider flat, or about 1 in larger around the chest before construction differences.

Why one measurement is not enough
